Savvier Second Opinion · No. 7 · 2026-09-20

Novig’s Launch Ad Went Viral.
Did Anyone Learn What Novig Actually Does?

Second Opinion is a regular series from Savvier, the AI platform for marketing teams. Each week we take something in culture, run it through Savvier workflows, and share what might have been better.

The Situation

Novig · The “Just Sports” campaign · Sydney Sweeney

Last month, Novig launched its first national ad starring Sydney Sweeney. The spot, “Just Sports,” collected more than 60 million views on Instagram for an account with fewer than 60,000 followers.

Those are numbers most brands will never see. But the athletes were watching too. Amy Hunt, for one, was not impressed. The British sprinter was fresh off the 200m final at the World Athletics Championships. She wrote: “This is what women in sport look like. 21.4. Muscles. Hard work, sweat, blood, tears.” Australian boxer Skye Nicolson added: “There’s a big difference between looking sexy because you do sport compared to using sex to sell sport.”

Peak Metrics looked at what people were actually saying. Only 4% of social posts about the campaign mentioned what Novig does. The other 96% were about Sweeney.

Sweeney, who holds equity in the company, said the campaign “cut through the noise and put the focus entirely on sports.” Something certainly cut through. We ran it through Savvier to work out what.

The Breakdown

Method · Two Savvier workflows

Savvier has 60+ workflows designed by leading marketing experts, and each one works like a recipe for a specific marketing task. We ran two of them here. Strategic Feedback, to ask whether this ad did the job a launch ad is supposed to do. And Competitive Review, to see how Novig stacks up against the platforms already in the space.

01

Strategic Feedback

The launch question

We used Strategic Feedback to ask whether this ad does the job a launch ad is built for: earning attention and making the product understood at the same time. Here is what it found.

Priority 01

Product comprehension at launch

Take  “Novig is a sports prediction market. Federally regulated, 21+, sports only. The campaign generated mass awareness for a brand that didn’t exist in public consciousness before this. But only 4% of the conversation mentioned what the product does. The other 96% was about the talent. For a launch, that gap between attention and comprehension is the risk that matters most.”

Reco  “A second wave should make the product itself the subject. Short-form content showing what a prediction market looks like in practice, placing a pick, watching it resolve, would help people understand the product while the awareness window is still open.”

Priority 02

Celebrity overshadowing brand

Take  “Sweeney holds equity in the company and helped develop the creative direction. That involvement goes well beyond a standard endorsement. But the campaign’s visual language, its tone, and the cultural conversation it generated all orbited the celebrity rather than the product. When 96% of the conversation is about the talent, the brand is renting its own launch.”

Reco  “Establish brand-owned visual properties that work without the celebrity present. Novig’s ‘Just Sports’ positioning has real potential, but the campaign never gave it a visual system of its own. The next phase should build assets that carry the brand independently, so Sweeney amplifies something that already exists rather than substituting for it.”

“The campaign accomplished something rare for a new brand: genuine mass attention. The strategic question is whether that attention can convert into product understanding before it fades.”

Competitive Review

The competitive question

We used Competitive Review to compare Novig against Polymarket and Kalshi, the two platforms already in the space. Here is what it found.

Priority 01

The differentiator that went unheard

Take  “Novig’s core positioning is sports only. That matters because its closest competitors serve broader markets. Polymarket generates roughly 39% of its trading volume from sports. Kalshi is closer to 80%. Novig is the only major prediction market built exclusively around sports events. That is a real differentiator, and the launch campaign never communicated it.”

Reco  “The ‘Just Sports’ tagline appears in the campaign but never gets explained or defended. A competitive positioning message, something that draws a clear line between Novig’s sports-only focus and the broader platforms, would give potential users a specific reason to choose it. Someone who watched the ad and then searched ‘prediction markets’ would find Polymarket first.”

Priority 02

Awareness without a competitive claim

Take  “The campaign created massive awareness for the prediction market category without anchoring that awareness to Novig specifically. When a new entrant generates attention for a category but fails to stake a distinct position within it, the established players tend to benefit. Polymarket and Kalshi have broader name recognition and larger user bases. Without a competitive claim, Novig’s awareness may flow to them.”

Reco  “Move quickly to convert brand awareness into product understanding. That means content and messaging that answers three questions: what is a prediction market, why use one for sports, and why choose Novig over the alternatives. The awareness window from the Sweeney campaign is limited, and competitors are not standing still.”

“Novig’s biggest competitive advantage, being the only major prediction market built exclusively for sports, is the key thing the campaign never said.”

Key Finding · Competitive Review

The Takeaway

The job

The old line is that all publicity is good publicity. Strategic Feedback found it depends on what you’re launching. When 96% of the conversation is about the talent and 4% is about the product, you have publicity. Whether you have a launch is a different question.

The finding

Competitive Review found that Novig’s core advantage is real. Being the only major prediction market built exclusively for sports is a genuine differentiator, and the campaign never said it. The awareness is there. What happens when it meets the product is the open question.
